Alchemy of Light : Wavelength conversion

Nonlinear optics deals with nonlinear interactions of light with matter,
which provides ases for a variety of practical applications, such as wavelength
conversion, optical switching, and optical amplification, as well as scientific
interests. In this talk, concept of nonlinear optics, mechanisms of second- and
third-order nonlinear processes, nonlinear optical materials enabling high
conversion efficiency, and applications are presented. Emphasis is laid on the methodology of frequency conversion and a periodically domain inverted
ferroelectric structure for quasi-phase matching..
